History

Apatite's name is derived from the Greek word "apate," meaning "deceit," due to its frequent confusion with other minerals such as topaz and aquamarine. It is not often faceted due to its softness, but when cut correctly it can display neon like colours which made it explode as a favourite stone nearly overnight. Apatite is also commonly used to make fertilizer as it is a source of phosphorus.

Geology

Blue Apatite is a phosphate mineral that can be found in a range of colours, with blue being among the most sought after. It forms in various geological environments, including igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks.  The crystal often displays a vitreous to sub-resinous lustre, and it ranks 5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, making it relatively soft compared to other gemstones. Blue Apatite's transparency can range from transparent to opaque, and it often exhibits a hexagonal crystal system. It can be found in many places including Brazil, India.
